How to Make Your Own Fabric Banners

Fabric displays can be attractive and effective when designed and set-up properly. One such display method is the use of hanging fabric banners which you can buy from a vendor or create them yourself.

The first thing to consider when you want to design your own fabric banner is the cloth. You can choose from three options – felt, cotton and nylon. Felt is cheap, can be easily molded and joined to make different desirable shapes. Cotton gives you a broad variety in the choice of color, texture and weight of the fabric. If you want to make a banner that will be used many times, cotton fabric banners which are washable and durable are the best choice. Another option is nylon, which is a lightweight material that can sustain extreme weather conditions.

Once you choose the type of cloth, you can start decorating it. The easiest and the cheapest way to decorate your fabric banner is to paint it. Another option is the appliqué method where you can cut the desired shapes for logos and alphabets and stick them to a background by gluing them or sewing them. A faster way of attaching decorations to the background is ‘fusing’ them by using a special iron-on material.

Hanging fabric displays are usually available in three shapes – square, round and triangle. But when you are making them yourself, you can create any shape that matches with the product you are promoting and make your stall more customized.
