How to Make a Logo That Will Look Great on a Banner

If you’re hoping to spread awareness for your business and increase your clientele, then one of the most important things to focus on is the logo that you are using to promote yourself. An effective logo should be one that is instantly recognisable, that says everything you want to say about your business, and that can work in a variety of contexts.

This versatility in particular is crucial because you’ll want to use your logo in as many places as possible to achieve maximum exposure. This might mean using your branding right on your products and packaging for instance, but it can also mean using it on your marketing materials and advertising, as well as on your website. Each of these scenarios has different criteria, so it’s important to think about where you are going to be using your logo, and how you can make it really work in that situation.

One of the places you’re likely to use your branding image for instance is on materials such as banners at tradeshows. Here we will look at how you can ensure that your logo works in those kinds of situations as well as all the others. If it doesn’t, then it’s back to the drawing board.

Making Your Logo Eye Catching

The main requirement for a banner at something like a tradeshow is to grab attention so that people stop to find out more. The idea is that when someone stands back from the hustle and bustle of the event, they will scan the various banners on display and find that yours draws them in. Use eye-catching colours and ask yourself honestly whether your logo is something that ‘jumps out’ at you, even when surrounded by other similar images.

Legible

For these reasons your logo must also be clear, it must be large and it must use high contrast colours which the human brain is hardwired to look out for. Avoid using anything complex, because it will be more difficult to blow that up to a larger size.

Recognisable

Another important way to make your logo work on a banner, is to ensure that it is instantly recognisable. There will be times when people manage to see only a portion of your banner, and when this happens you want them to still be able to identify it as yours. That then means that you need to make the banner unique enough and different enough that even the corner of one letter can tell them that it’s your company that they’re looking at.

Interesting

Contrary to what popular psychology would have you believe, we don’t tend to just look at whichever stimulus jumps out at us and makes the most noise – rather we will inspect more closely the things that we are naturally inclined to find interesting and valuable.

To this end, it’s useful to include particular images and elements that we are naturally drawn to. For instance we have a tendency to examine human faces which begins as early as childhood. This means that by adding eyes to your logo, you may be able to attract closer scrutiny.
