When you attend a tradeshow with your business in a bid to improve your exposure and gain more potential leads, your first goal should be to try and attract attention and get people over to your display. If you don’t manage to do at least that much, then you won’t be able to tell them about your business and you won’t be able to show them why what you do is so important.
Once you have them over and looking at your stall, your next job is to make sure that they are impressed with what they see and to make sure that they feel inclined to get as much information as possible. Better yet, you want to ensure that they give you their details so that you can follow up.
Then they’ll leave you to get on their merry way, but this is actually where one of the most important parts comes in. You see what’s crucially important is that they leave and remember your business. That they follow up on what was said at the stall, and that they look you up online when you get home. While getting them over to you and impressing them is very important, it’s not nearly as important as making sure that your message stays with them.
So how do you make sure that you can do that? Here are some suggestions that will help…
One of the best ways you can get your visitors to remember your business, is to give them promotional materials and products that can then act as Trojan horses. For instance you might give them a leaflet or flier, with the hope that they’ll flick through this later on and remember what you said to them.
The problem is that leaflets, more often than not, tend to get ignored and thrown away. Thus, if you want to make sure that your message survives a bit longer you should put it on something more useful such as a corporate gift. That could be a t-shirt, a cap or a mouse mat, just as long as it serves a purpose other than to promote your company.
Also important of course is to make an impression while you’re there. You can do this by having a well-designed and presented display that will look professional and that will make your product look professional, but you can also do it by presenting your message in an important way. That means getting them to really believe in what you’re doing and to understand why it is that they should choose your business. People are much more likely to remember emotion than facts, and they tend to rely on emotion when guiding their purchasing decisions too. If you want to get someone behind your business then, explain to them what your mission statement is, show them you’re passionate, and speak to their beliefs and their sense of self.
We remember things that have an emotional impact, but we also tend to remember things that are different from the norm and that stand out in some way. Try to make your exhibit more interesting then than the others around you, and think about what you can do to stand out. Involve a computer game, give away free sweets, or play some exciting music. Anything that makes your stall a bit more interesting so that people have something worth remembering when they’re back at home.
